Personality

Broody, Honest, Guarded, Emotionally Scarred, Puckish

Owen is by default broody and standoffish. It’s become a habit really, his protection against the harsh realities of his world. That also gives him a bit of an aggressive demeanor, though he’ll really only resort to fight if push comes to shove. He can be brash and rude when pushed, but most of the time he’s just blunt and honest.
Trust doesn’t come easy to him, but he gets along with people well enough anyways. Once he can be more laid back around people, his more mischievous and playful nature comes out. Through the years this has often started to express itself it what some consider negative ways, but he has healthy outlets for it as well. He’s always a prankster, his dislike for any male authority figures makes them the primary targets most of the time, thus landing him into some trouble.
Owen appreciates the second chance at life the Bennets have given him and is trying to live the straight and narrow for them, but old habits die hard and he’s had sticky fingers since he was 6 and you don’t spend a year in juvenile hall for being a good kid. He has a good heart though, he just has some unproductive outlets for his pain.
As far as school goes, despite being held back a year, something that had nothing to do with his intelligence or commitment to school and everything to do with outside circumstances, Owen is incredibly dedicated to his school work. However, he is a smartass in class and gets in plenty of trouble. But he manages to excel at that which he puts his mind too, though history bores him to tears.
He gets restless easily and always needs to be doing something, he tends to fidget and get anxious, though he does tricks to keep himself entertained.

Hobbies: Writing, graffiti, skateboarding, acting (started up in juvie and kind of likes it)
Habits: Smoking (trying to cut down), shoplifting (is supposed to be working on this in therapy)
Quirks: His ears turn red when he gets embarrassed. He gnaws on his lips and bites his thumbs

Appearance

Owen stands at five feet and eleven inches and is still growing, but he tends to hunch his shoulders over a lot normally, although when he’s in an aggressive mood he does make the most of his height. His build is fairly scrawny, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be scrappy in a fight. His hair (which can’t decide if it’s light brown or dark blond most of the time) is kept clean these days, he gets it cut whenever Mrs. Bennet wants him to get it cut though he always keeps it somewhat scruffy. He favors darker clothing and his favorite shoes are still Chucks, (like the ones he used to steal in junior high only legit this time around).

Owen's Scars:
*Knuckles have lots of random small scars and the skin there is textured
*Right hand, the top of his hand from his thumb to his wrist has a long this scar
*Light barely visible scar above his left eyebrow
*Scar on his jaw where he was stabbed with a plastic spork.
*Very faded old scars on his back

Back History

Childhood
Owen’s mom
Owen’s mother, Janice Dryden, was killed when Owen was only 5 years old.

Owen's mother Janice was only 19 he was born. His father was never named on his birth certificate and his mother never talked about him that he remembers, but he doesn’t remember much of her even. He’s not sure if everything he does remember about her is even real, though he has a worn picture of her that he’s managed to hold onto after all these years.
When Owen was 5 years old, Janice was dating a man named Eric who was a mean drunk. He was abusive towards Janice verbally and physically. Janice mostly kept him away from Owen except when she wasn’t around to protect him, and Owen received the brunt of his anger. It soon became apparently that Eric had problems with not only alcohol but drugs as well, but Janice couldn’t seem to get away from him. One day though, she snapped, when Eric through Owen through a glass table. She gathered her son and put him in the car, running back into the house to grab some of their stuff. She never came out. Owen locked himself in the car, as his mother made him promise to do. He stayed there for an entire day, until a neighbor came by and tried to get him out, but the terrified little boy refused. The neighbor went into Owen’ house, the door was slightly ajar, and found Owen’ mother dead. top

Foster Care & Juvie
At the tender age of 5 years old, a grieving Owen was put into the foster care system as they couldn’t find his mother’s parents and his father wasn’t known. At the time, he still didn’t understand the concept of death, not fully, and would cry endlessly for his mother. Though he was fine dealing with the other foster children, as he spent a lot of his early years in daycare, he was far from pleasant when dealing with adults, especially males, and this caused many a problem in his foster homes. He was bounced around for a while, never truly finding a steady home to stay in. He’s run away more times than he remembers, but he never really ran away for good. His social worker had told him at a very young age that his mother wanted him to get a good education and so in little Owen’s mind the only way to do right by her was to go to school. And he couldn’t go to school if he didn’t have a guardian, which meant sticking foster care.
The longest Owen ever stayed with a foster family was almost a full year, 11 months when he was 10 and 11 with the Roses, a born again Christian couple who took in foster children. Though they were strict about rules and very into religion, which Owen had no faith in, they provided care and support for their foster children. When he arrived at the Rose’s house he meant Claire who had been with them for a short time already. She is the only foster sibling that Owen had ever considered a sister before, the first fellow story he met, and the person who taught him how to pick-pocket. They were very close, but when Mrs. Rose got pregnant the couple decided that they didn’t want to raise their birth child with foster kids in their care and Owen was bounced back into the system.

Juvie
As Owen grew older, his troubles only grew. For one, his puckish nature matured with him and his bratty behavior became more like delinquent behavior. He had no respect for male authority figures and that got him into trouble at home, at school, and on the streets. Brooding and emotionally guarded, Owen never really met the right kids when he would start new schools as he was moved from home to home and he tended to fall in with the wrong crowds. Always up for a challenge as he got older this often meant breaking the law. Owen stole for the first time at the age of 7 when he was so hungry that he gorged himself in the candy isle of a convenience store, learned to pick-pocket by the age of 10, and progressed from there.
He wasn’t charged with any serious crimes until he was 16. Owen was with a crew he’d met through one of his foster brothers that lifted cars, Owen was driving the stolen vehicle when the guy in the passenger seat spotted a cop and grabbed the wheel, causing Owen to lose control and crash. Owen ran and when jumping up on a fence he caught his leg on a jagged edge and ripped it open, allowing then beat cop Gavin Maguire to catch up with him and make the arrest. He needed stitches for the injury and has a scar from it now.
He was charged with Grand Theft Auto, Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, Resisting without Violence, Burglary to a Structure/Business, Burglary to an Unoccupied Conveyance, and Driving without a Valid License. He plead guilty in order to avoid being tried as an adult, given his criminal record and was sentenced to serve until his 18th birthday, upon which he would have a probation hearing.
A few weeks into Owen’s sentence there was a incident in the mess, another boy stabbed him in the chin with a spork and an a fight ensued, with Owen inflicting a rather lot of harm to the other boy. He lost privileges and was but in a more locked down ward. However Owen was left alone after that fight, having proven himself, no one would mess with him.
It wasn’t that he came out changed so much as that for once in his life, he’d had stability for a long period of time, as odd as that sounds. He acted out, he hated the restrictions, a boy so used to doing whatever he pleased on his own time, and it was hard for him, but he’d had a steady sort of life.
Owen focused on his school work and working out his anger through is writing and was released early on good behavior, with a great deal of help from the Bennets in this regard.top

The Bennets
It was through a program educating juvenile delinquents that he met Mr. Bennet. James Bennet was a college mathematics professor who volunteered to teach the more gifted inmates at the detention center. James believed he could show these kids they had potential to be more than they were, for a life greater than they had. And Owen was his most gifted and promising student. They bonded over session, Owen’s scholastic discipline the only sort of discipline he seemed to have bringing the two of them together. It was tragedy that tied them together in many ways as well. James Bennet had lost his own brother to a life of drugs and crime. It happened that he’d chosen another path in life, throwing himself into his education. He’d met a beautiful woman in college named Elizabeth, who happened to be extremely wealthy, but neither of them cared about the money. James’ brother was the reason he was teaching the classes and Owen’s mother was the reason he was paying attention. Under James’ guidance, Owen managed to make it out of the detention center early for good behavior and though it took some talking into, James’ wife Elizabeth, who could never have children of her own due to a childhood illness, agreed to take Owen in.
Owen appreciates the gift that the Bennet’s have given him, but he doesn’t feel quite like he fits in their world, despite their best efforts. Though he was originally supposed to graduate in Fall of 2008, because of his school hoping and stay in the detention center, when he was admitted to LPA it was under the condition that he start as a junior. He almost wasn’t accepted into the private school, but long talks with the headmaster and various tests and psychological evaluations later, in January of 2008 Owen began attended LPA.top

What's the Story

Introduction
Owen was introduced on his first day of school at LPA when Rory Reed knocked a faucet and soaked herself and Owen with water. The two bonded over the experience. That same day he met Nick Karras and was invited to join the Misfits for lunch.top

Adaptation to family life and LPA
Although Owen is starting to adjust to being part of a family, he still calls Mrs. Bennet by that title, out of respect. He and James have developed a good rapport. Owen has made fast friends with Nick Karras and has developed a close relationship with Rory. In Rory he has found someone he can relate to on a level he hasn’t had before. Nick is constantly trying to push Rory and Owen closer together, even though Owen refuses to admit to anything more than friendship with her.

Scout... Owen has no explanation for Scout. She’s apparently laid claim to him and decided that means she’s allowed to meddle in his life. He doesn’t seem to hold it against as much as he would anyone else, but he blames this on the past life thing. How do you argue with your patron goddess?
